About Us
Spòrs Gàidhlig offers exciting opportunities for young people to use Gaelic in the outdoors.
Spòrs Gàidhlig is a social enterprise working throughout Scotland which creates opportunities for young people to use and learn about Gaelic in a fun, positive and supportive setting. We offer outdoor activities, residential camps, educational programmes and events, all through the medium of Gaelic.
We operate on both a mobile and a residential basis; if you, your school or your community group is interested in any of Spòrs Gàidhlig’s activities, we can arrange to come to your area and deliver a programme of activities (availability allowing) or alternatively, you can check out our upcoming residential events.
Our core aims are;
- To foster and grow the Gaelic Language in Scotland
- To support young people to gain confidence and new skills
- To work with others to allow them to use Gaelic
- To leave a positive legacy
If the Gaelic language is to be relevant and strong in the present day, young people must have opportunities to enjoy and take part in activities through the medium of Gaelic. The positive association between Gaelic language activities and a young person’s language ability and tendency to use the language is critical to the health of Gaelic in Scotland.
We are the only Gaelic organisation to hold an AALA Licence (Adventure Activities Licensing Authority) which is a legal requirement when delivering adventurous activities for young people, and we work closely with schools to deliver learning outcomes and assist with the delivery of their priorities. Our programmes are aligned with the Curriculum for Excellence and GIRFEC.
Spòrs Gàidhlig is a part of Comunn na Gàidhlig which delivers wider youth and community work throughout Scotland although operates as a separate company.
