Schools programme

Our programme for schools places use and learning of Gaelic at the heart of everything we do.

We provide opportunities for schools in two ways:

  1. Schools residentials
  2. Outreach programme – a programme in your local area.

Schools residentials

These unique programmes are designed for schools offering Gaelic medium education and for Gaelic learners. We can also cater for mixed groups where education is offered in both English and Gaelic.

We run our residential programme from various outdoor centres in Scotland; Baile Phuil near Strathyre, Torran in Skye, Scalladale in Harris and other venues on an occasional basis.

The programmes are fun-packed, full of adventure and varied with something for everyone. We can provide a wide programme of activities and provide a programme that suits the needs of your learners.

Outreach programme – a programme in your local area

We come to your school and deliver our activities in your area. The package includes all instruction and leadership as well as equipment.  It makes sense to offer a programme over 2+ days meaning more young people can take part without the need to travel. By coordinating with other local schools, the cost can be even more cost-effective. If activities are offered through the local fèis, you can access reduced prices through our Fèis spòrs programme.

By offering a programme in the area surrounding your school, the need for overnight accommodation is removed thus reducing the cost. We are fortunate in Scotland that the landscape offers opportunities for the majority of our activities. In 2020, even in COVID-19 times, we have offered programmes in Inverness, Glasgow, Islay, Mull and Oban.

An Rubha Rèidh

We arrive with the equipment and instructors ready to deliver activities for your learners and bring them back to base. We can usually offer all of the following activities to participants, using your school as a base:

Loch Bad na Sgalaig

Costs for an outreach programme are very much dependant on how many participants there are and location. We charge mileage at £0.45/mile and accommodation costs. For a five-day programme in the Central Belt with three instructors, indicative costs are £2,000-3,000.
