SUMMARY:Campa nan Torran 2026 | S2-S4 | Multi-Activity Camp for S2-S4 | Torrin\, Isle of Skye ⛰️☀️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
DESCRIPTION:Thigibh còmhla ri sgioba Spòrs Gàidhlig airson campa air leth san Eilean Sgitheanach\, a’ rùrach am measg beanntan agus uisgeachan an Eilein\, uile tro mheadhan na Gàidhlig! \nFad còig lathaichean\, eadar 3mh is 7mh Lùnastal 2026\, gheibh sibh bogadh ceart ann an cànain\, cultar agus cur-seachadan adhartach agus inntinneach\, a thuilleadh air pailteas chothroman eòlas a chur air caraidean sean is ùr ann an àrainneachd shònraichte. \nGabhaidh sinn ris an aimsir a gheibh sinn air an t-seachdain\, ach tha sinn an dùil gum bi prògram measgaichte ann de chlaiseachd\, bòrd-seasaimh\, coiseachd nam beann\, sreap agus cuairtean cultarail an lùib a’ phrògraim! Tachraidh seo uile fo stiùir iùlichean Spòrs Gàidhlig. Faodaidh a’ bhuidheann cuideachadh le taghadh cò na cur-seachadan a nì sinn tron t-seachdain\, agus bithidh cothrom air rudan nas socraiche a leithid geamaichean agus co-fharpais Wii Sports! \nCoinnichidh sinn aig an àite-fuirich againn airson na seachdain feasgar Diluain 3mh Lùnastal\, agus ’s e siud Taigh Bunca na Torran. \n \nFaodaidh daoine ar coinneachadh ann an Inbhir Nis sa mhadainn agus siubhail còmhla rinn ann am bus Spòrs Gàidhlig\, ma thogras iad. Fàgaidh am bus aig 11:45m. \n‘S ann do sgoilearan a bhios ann an S2-4 às dèidh samhradh 2026 agus a tha fileanta sa Ghàidhlig a bhios an campa seo. \nBheir an campa seo cothrom air leth air fèin-leasachadh don òigridh a bhios an sàs. Bidh aig gach neach a bhith deiseil dleastanas as ghabhail airson ghnìomhan a leithid còcaireachd\, glanadh agus agus eile\, mar phàirt de sgioba agus fo stiùir iùilichean Spòrs Gàidhlig. \nTha sinn ag amas air àrainneachd a tha gu tur Gàidhlig a chruthachadh aig na campaichean seo\, far an cluinn agus cleachd an òigridh an cànan mar a bhuineas e ri beatha làitheil agus còmhradh neo-fhoirmeil. Bidh uallach air gach com-pàirtiche oidhirp a dhèanamh gus an àrainneachd ud a chumail an-àirde. ’S ann aig tachartasan nas fhaide mar seo a chì sinn an t-adhartas agus misneachadh as motha a thaobh Gàidhlig\, ach cha tig sin mura bi a’ bhuidheann gu lèir deònach a’ Ghàidhlig a bhruidhinn. \n \nJoin Spòrs Gàidhlig for a camp full of fun and adventure in the Isle of Skye\, exploring the island’s mountains\, gorges and lochs with a action-packed programme – all through the medium of Gaelic! \nOver five days\, between 3-7th August 2026\, participants will be fully immersed in adventurous activities\, cultural exploration and the Gaelic language\, as well getting to know friends new and old in an amazing environment. \nWe will have to adapt the programme to the autumnal weather\, but we expect the week to feature paddleboarding\, a mountain adventure\, climbing\, gorge scrambling\, cultural excursions and more! \nThe camp will be based at Torrin Bunkhouse in Skye\, where we will meet on the afternoon of Monday 3rd August. Participants are welcome to meet us in Inverness in the morning and travel to Skye in Spòrs Gàidhlig’s minibus if they would prefer. The bus will leave Inverness at 11:45. \nThis camp for competent young people will offer great opportunities for personal development. Each individual will have a responsibility to work effectively as part of the team and carry out tasks like helping prepare for meals\, cleaning up and being ready for the day’s tasks\, under the guidance of Spòrs Gàidhlig’s instructors. \n \nGàidhlig \nThis is a camp for fluent Gaelic speakers. Spòrs Gàidhlig aim to create a complete a fully-immersive Gaelic environment\, where young people can hear and use the language in informal settings and in novel environments. It is during multi-day events such as these that we see the greatest impact with regards to participants’ confidence in using Gaelic socially\, and their esteem for the language\, but for this to work requires the commitment of the entire party. Every participant must understand therefore that they have a reponsibility to uphold this environment and make every effort to use Gaelic. \nHow difficult will the camp’s activities be? \nThis trip is suitable for active individuals in S2-4 who are prepared for a challenge in the outdoors. \nParticipants should expect to be tired at the end of each day. A multi-day camp like this requires concerted effort to complete not only the day’s excursions but also evening tasks relating to preparing food\, managing equipment and looking after our accommodation. \nWhat safety precautions do you take? \nSpòrs Gàidhlig’s instructors are highly experienced and are formally qualified to the appropriate level to be delivering these activities. \nEach instructor carries a first-aid kit\, and where appropriate\, a walkie talkie/radio for communication within the group. They will also have a mobile phone which can be used where coverage allows and a Garmin InReach PLB for backup. \nTrips are flexible. Routes can be amended to adapt to Scotland’s highly changeable weather and instructors’ judgement of the group’s capabilities. The priority is always getting everyone back safely\, even if that means not fulfilling an objective. If this happens\, it is often a more valuable learning experience than an easy success! \n \nWhat equipment do you provide? \n\nFood for 3 meals each day.\nAll technical equipment (paddleboards\, wetsuits etc)\nWe can provide sleeping bags for use in the bunkhouse\, or participants are welcome to bring their own.\n\nA full kit list will be provided upon signing up to the trip. \nAn online briefing meeting will be arranged for participants and parents approximately 3 weeks before the trip takes place. \nOpen to Gaelic-speaking teenagers in S2-S4 after the 2026 summer holidays. \nWhat have past participants at Campa nan Torran said? \n“It was an amazing opportunity for the children to spend a week immersed in Gaelic and doing really fantastic activities that challenged them. They will have amazing memories of it\, and will have learned so many skills from the activities and in terms of their Gaelic.“ \n“My daughter loved every minute of it! The tutors were excellent\, the accommodation was great\, the food was fantastic\, the activities were exciting and fun!“ \n“My son came home speaking much more Gaelic than before. It has significantly increased the likelihood of him using Gaelic with his friends\, especially the group of friends who were at the camp together – they got used to speaking to each other in Gaelic and that has become much more the norm for them. The tutors are excellent role models for the children in terms of speaking Gaelic – they are seeing people outside of school or their own home speaking Gaelic – young\, ‘cool'(!) people – and this makes them much more likely to use it themselves.“ \n“I was told it was the best food! Lasagna was mentioned many times over.” \n“Bha ar mac cho toilichte air a’ champa! Chan eil e a’ bruidhinn air càil eile aig ceann na seachdain!” \nSpòrs Gàidhlig reserves the right to refuse a place on this trip to anyone they do not feel meets the required level of skill\, fitness or commitment to maintaining the Gaelic environment within the group. \n** This camp may be attended by a researcher from Sabhal Mòr Ostaig\, and will form part of the fieldwork for their PhD\, looking at the impact of Gaelic residential camps for teenagers. Further information on this will be sent out to participants closer to the time\, and participation in the research is not mandatory for those attending the camp. **
